AMPLIFY

Turn it up. Make it yours.

A creative music programme for ages 12–16.

AMPLIFY is a place for young musicians to create, collaborate and make music together.

Bring your instrument. Bring your voice. Bring your ideas.

From forming bands and rearranging favourite songs to writing original music, recording and performing, AMPLIFY gives young people the opportunity to explore music creatively and discover what happens when different musicians, skills and ideas come together.

At the heart of AMPLIFY is creativity.

Members are encouraged to contribute their own ideas, experiment with different roles and gradually take greater ownership of the music they make.

A guitarist might bring in a chord progression. Someone else adds lyrics. A singer finds the melody. Another member hears a harmony. A drummer changes the feel completely.

One idea can become something none of them would have created alone.

That’s AMPLIFY.

Make music

AMPLIFY is about learning through doing.

Sessions give young musicians opportunities to play, sing, write, arrange, rehearse, record and perform – developing their musicianship through real creative experiences.

As different musical interests and skills emerge, members can work together in different combinations, with bands, duos, vocal groups and ensembles forming naturally within the wider group.

Play together

Instrumentalists are encouraged to bring the skills they're developing into AMPLIFY.

Whether you play guitar, bass, keys, drums or another instrument, you'll have opportunities to play alongside other musicians and learn how individual parts work together.

Explore rhythm, dynamics, musical communication and arrangement while developing one of the most valuable skills any musician can have – playing with other people.

Use your voice

Explore how your voice works as part of a wider musical sound.

Learn to blend voices, create and hold harmonies, develop backing vocals and understand the different skills involved in singing lead and supporting another vocalist.

Experiment with how voices and instruments interact within an arrangement and learn how to apply your voice as one instrument within a group.

Collaborate

Making music together means listening, responding and building on each other's ideas.

Members will have opportunities to work in different combinations, discover shared musical interests and explore the different roles involved in creating music together.

As the group develops, bands and smaller ensembles can naturally begin to emerge; giving members the chance to develop their own sound, choose repertoire and create together.

Write original music

Explore how songs grow from an initial idea into something complete.

Start with a lyric, melody, chord progression, riff, rhythm or concept and develop it through individual and collaborative songwriting.

Learn about song structure, hooks, melody, harmony and chords while discovering different ways of writing with other musicians.

An idea brought into one session could eventually become an original song written, arranged, performed and recorded by the group.

Create arrangements

Explore what makes an arrangement work and how creative choices can completely transform a piece of music.

Experiment with instrumentation, harmonies, dynamics, structure, tempo and style.

Members can take songs they already love and explore different ways of performing them; deciding together what each instrument and voice contributes and developing an arrangement that feels like their own.

Record & produce

Discover how music develops in a recording environment.

Work with microphones and recording equipment, record vocals and instruments, build layers and explore how individual parts combine to create a finished track.

Members can experience the journey from an initial musical idea through rehearsal and arrangement to recording something they've helped create.

Perform

Bring your music to the stage.

Develop confidence performing as part of a band, ensemble, duo, group or as a solo artist, while learning the practical skills involved in preparing music for live performance.

Rehearse together, develop stagecraft and musical communication, and experience the excitement of performing something you've had a hand in creating.

Find your sound

AMPLIFY gives young musicians the opportunity to explore different sides of music and discover where their own interests and strengths lie.

You might love performing lead vocals or find that creating harmonies is your thing.

You might be happiest behind a guitar, sitting at the keys or locking into a rhythm section.

You might discover a talent for songwriting, arranging or bringing everyone else’s ideas together.

And as those individual strengths begin to connect, something bigger starts to happen.

Musicians find each other.

Bands form.

Ideas become songs.

Songs become performances.

And young people begin to develop a musical identity of their own.

Who is AMPLIFY for?

AMPLIFY is for young people aged 12–16 with a love of music and a desire to explore it further.

It’s a place for singers, instrumentalists, songwriters, performers and young people who are still discovering where they fit.

Members can bring the musical skills they’re already developing while gaining experience in other areas through collaboration with the group.

For young musicians progressing from Rising Stars, AMPLIFY provides an exciting opportunity to take the foundations they’ve developed and begin using them with greater independence and creativity.

New members are equally welcome to bring their own musical experiences, influences and ideas into the mix.

What everyone shares is a love of music and a willingness to create, contribute, experiment and collaborate.
